Why did my transparent PNG get a white background?
JPG doesn't support transparency, so transparent pixels have to be filled with a solid colour — white by default. If you need to keep transparency, convert to WebP or keep the PNG instead.
Will converting PNG to JPG reduce the file size?
Usually yes, often dramatically for photos, because JPG's lossy compression is far more compact than PNG. The trade-off is a small, typically unnoticeable loss of detail.
